Troubling hospital repair backlog the legacy of underfunding and freezes

QUEEN’S PARK — NDP Health critic France Gélinas issued the following statement in response to a report from the Financial Accountability Officer (FAO) which says that 45.9 per cent of Ontario’s hospitals are not in a state of good repair:

“Government after government has chosen not to invest enough in health care and our hospitals. For 15 years, the Liberals let us down with budget cuts and freezes. The underfunding continues with the Ford Conservatives. Now, nearly half of all hospitals in Ontario are not in good shape. That has a serious impact on patient well-being, and on recruiting the best doctors and health care workers to care for our families. Ontarians deserve great, modern hospitals — not crumbling facilities, and a government that ignored them.”
